RACISM Fueling Anti-Obama Actions

jimmy_carter-200px.jpgbarack_obama-200px.jpg
Former President Jimmy Carter has gone on record asserting that racism and fear are driving the anti-Obama anger, protests, and “heckling” even within the U.S. Congress.

My opinion is that the “good ol’ boy” network of aging white men just can’t come to terms with the decline of their power and influence. They still consider Barack Obama (and his wife) to be “uppity nigras” who seek to usurp the prepotency enjoyed by the white majority for two centuries of United States history.

Recently, Carter wrote of the repugnancy of religious fundamentalism that promotes the belief that women must be subjugated to the wishes of men and therefore justifying slavery, violence, forced prostitution, genital mutilation and rape. Such beliefs are manifested in the official governmental and societal sanction to deny girls and women equal access to education, health care and employment, and to dictate when and to whom they shall marry.

Is this really so different than the fundamentalist religious beliefs that apartheid is based upon? Racial superiority or Gender superiority, it all comes down to white man keeping control.

However, I must opine, the most interesting thing that I see is how many Black men, once emancipated and ascendant, perpetuate the subjugation of women, thus joining with their White Gender-mates, to maintain control over women.

I don’t doubt for a minute that, had Hilary Clinton won the U.S. Presidency, she would be subjected to the same anger and heckling that Obama is experiencing. That is a common acknowledgment: in surveys, white men, having to choose between a Black man in the Presidency or a White women….would prefer a Black man.

Hilary Clinton as Secretary of State will Forge Her Legacy

Hilary Clinton as Secretary of State will Forge Her Legacy

Hillary Clinton is a smart person.  I believe she has recognized that her Presidential aspirations can be consigned to history.  She will be too old to be a viable candidate EIGHT years from now.

clintontostate.jpgAs Secretary of State in the Obama Administration she will begin to forge her legacy in history.  She will begin to distinguish herself as a “statesman” rather than as a politician, as just another U.S. senator who unsuccessfully ran for president.

She has an opportunity here to re-make her image.  She has an opportunity here to make new contributions in service to her country and leave a lasting legacy on the World stage.  That stage has never been larger, nor the challenges greater.  Peace must come to the Middle East in our lifetime.

She has a large challenge ahead.  President-elect Obama has placed a lot of trust in her intelligence and ability.  His agenda must become her agenda if she is to not disappoint him.  She will not fail.

Along with Bill and his Clinton Global Initiative, Hilary will become a citizen of the World, transcending the limitations of politics and electioneering.  She and her husband will have a major impact on the World of the future, and the place she will begin is by carrying the banner of the U. S. Department of State around the World.

Obama Cabinet Hopefuls Mostly Experienced Insiders

Obama Cabinet Hopefuls Mostly Experienced Insiders

Those who have expressed concerns about Barack Obama’s lack of leadership experience in Washington must feel reassured by the familair faces and names being touted around as potential cabinet secretaries.

Meanwhile, those who hoped for a complete “coup” of the government by outsiders will be disappointed, although there will be some new faces, some black faces, some native american faces, and some female faces to uphold the election campaign themes.

At State, Senator Hilllary Clinton is said to have been offered the job and she is struggling over leaving the Senate.  As a member of the Obama Administration she would not be well-positioned for a challenge run in 2012.

At Defense, the hope is that Obama will offer Robert Gates the opportunity to remain in place, at least for the near term.  That will help Obama in gaining some credibility among the U.S. military hierarchy, where they have perceived him as not being in their corner, so far as maintaining adequate troops to finish the job in Iraq.

Another plus for Obama would be the appointment of retired USMC General Jim Jones as National Security Advisor.  General Jones is a former Commandant of the Marine Corps and Supreme Allied Commander, Europe (NATO).

Arizona Governor Janet Napolitano is being mentioned as Obama’s choice as Homeland Security Secretary.  That would bring at least female into the cabinet, if Hillary Clinton should decline the State job.

At Health and Human Services, former South Dakota Senator and Democratic Leader Tom Daschle is the only name being mentioned.  He appears to be in line for the job.

As Attorney General, Obama has chosen Eric Holder, a former Deputy AG under Janet Reno in the Clinton Administration.  He would become the nation’s first African-American Attorney General.

And, just announced, Timothy Geithner as Treasury secretary. Geithner is now the president of the Federal Reserve Bank of New York.

There remains a lot of speculation about most of these positions, with only the Tim Geithner, Eric Holder and Tom Daschle appointments seemingly decided upon.

There are also many other positions yet to fill, and the President-designate has a full schedule as he enters the third week of his Transition.
