Pollsters and Palin

decision-2008-450px.png

Polls and Pollsters in the 2008 Presidential Campaign are about as dependable as the people who are polled: not very.

People lie to pollsters.  Like statistics, you can find a poll to back up or “Prove” any position you choose.  Looking at yesterday’s polls will make no sense if you look at tomorrow’s polls.

So I look at the polls I used as a basis for yesterday’s blog and they make no sense when compared to today’s polls; in fact, they contradict the newest polls.

Now we have political analysts saying that the big “undecideds,” a major portion of whom are Women, are now making up their minds and are leaning toward McCain-Palin.  And it is not because of McCain, but because of Palin.

Senator Obama, yesterday, began addressing some of his criticisms toward Palin, which seems unusual to me, i.e., the Top of one Ticket going after the Bottom of the other Ticket.

There are headlines that trumpet the Palin “coattails” which also seems completely turned around. VP candidates do not “pull along” the Presidential candidate into the White House.

Will this post-convention boost to the McCain campaign translate into a real difference on Election Day?  I don’t think we can even begin to judge that at this point.   Let us see what happens in the debates.  Let us see what happens when the candidates begin addressing the very different tax plans they would bring before the next Congress.   Let us see how the public perceives the differences between the Presidential candidates, where the attention, in my opinion, ought to be directed.
