Buttons, Banners and Bragging - Selling of the Next President
The election campaigns now turn to the final eight weeks and the Big Sell continues. This is not unlike promoting the new fall television season, or the fall NFL schedule, or a new soft drink “sensation.”
The hype is all ADVERTISING. Flash and sparkle and pomp and poo. BUTTONS, BANNERS AND BRAGGING. I haven’t seen so much red, white and blue since the 4th of July Independence Day celebration.
What we can do for you. This never changes. Political candidates all PROMISE!! Like a rancher who is all hat and no cattle.
These guys running for U.S. President are no different than any other LOCAL politician except that the stakes are higher and the money is…nearly unlimited.
I think it was Franklin D. Roosevelt who first said that “all politics is local.” When you follow the candidates to the hundreds of local events and speeches you will hear each man (or woman) speak like he or she has lived among us for years; like they know all the local problems and issues that we face; like they have the answers for everything.
And there are no groups that are not receiving attention. We are ALL the most important group and the most critical to electing the next President. Lots of advertising. Yes. America is famous for going overboard with the advertising and promotion part. Rock Stars, Movie Stars, Sports Stars, NFL, MLP, NBA, the Olympians! Politicians hire the same Ad campaign companies and Public Relations managers as the Stars. Every four years, the Politicians become the biggest stars, the biggest attraction, the biggest CELEBRITIES!
The biggest single job in every election campaign is advertising! Media time, promotions, appearances, buttons, banners and booze. Oh, they don’t really try to buy votes with booze anymore, but I wish they did. At least we could all actually enjoy something they paid for.
